How do I remove a stuck set screw?
- Apply a penetrating oil like WD-40 or PB Blaster to the screw and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen any corrosion or rust that may have caused the screw to stick.
- Use a heat gun or propane torch to heat the area around the screw that will expand the metal and break the bond between the screw and the material it is threaded to.
- Use a screw extractor to grip the head of the screw and turn it counterclockwise to remove the screw from the workpiece.
- If the screw is protruding from the surface of the material, use a plier or wrench. Grip the head of the screw with the tool and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
