Working Mechanism

  • The starter is equipped with a set of contacts that control the flow of electricity to the motor.
  • When the operator or the control system initiates the start command, the contacts (that are normally open) switch to a closed position, allowing the power supply to the motor.
  • The motor now begins to run.
  • On initiating the stop command, the contacts return to their original position and disconnect the power, which causes the motor to stop operating.
  • The starter is also incorporated with thermal overload protection, which monitors the current flowing to the motor.
  • If the current exceeds the pre-set limit, the thermal overload protection will trip and open the contacts, thereby disconnecting the power to the motor.

Non-reversing starters control starting, stopping and protection of a three-phase AC motor. They are only designed to allow the motor to move in one direction and cannot reverse the direction.
