Thermal protector is a device that is sensitive to increased motor temperature and protects the motor against overheating due to overload or failure to start. These units are available with either manual or automatic reset.

A single-speed motor has a constant speed rating at which it runs when supplied with the pre-determined voltage and frequency. A multi-speed motor runs at more than one speed (depending on how the motor has been connected to the supply).
