Working Mechanism

  • Eaton 55 Series photoelectric sensors generally emit an infrared light beam from its transmitter.
  • When an object comes into the path of the light beam, it interrupts the beam and the sensor detects this interruption.
  • The sensor then sends a signal back to indicate that an object has been detected.
  • Some models can even measure the distance of an object from the sensor.
  • The sensing range of the sensor is determined by the distance between the transmitter & the receiver and the angle of the light beam.

What are the different sensing modes in photoelectric sensors?

The sensors also have different sensing modes like diffuse, retroreflective and through-beam.

  • In diffuse mode, the sensors emit a light beam. The emitted light is then scattered by an object, allowing the sensor to detect the object even if it is not directly in the path of the light beam.
