Dwyer Instruments 160F standard pitot tube is ideal for use with differential pressure gauges, transmitters & switches for controlling and monitoring the airflow in HVAC & ventilation systems.
Features:
- This 160F Dwyer pitot tube features stainless-steel construction with straight design for easy insertion into ducts and hard-to-reach spaces.
- It has permanent-stamped insertion depth graduations to facilitate accurate positioning.
- This unit is equipped with an alignment indicator and a static pressure port to the sensing tube for keeping the tip parallel to flow.
Compatible Accessories:
- Dwyer A-158 Split Flange Assemblies: They can be added to the pitot tube. These units feature cadmium-plated steel and a gasket for mounting holes. Secure the flange loosely to the tube, tighten the screws and adjust the tube depth with the help of these assemblies.
- Dwyer A-159 Mounting Gland: They are versatile enough to slip on the pitot tube easily, providing permanent & secure mounting.
- Dwyer Instruments A-397 Rugged Step Drills: They quickly provide true round holes in thin materials and do not need a centre punch to start. They can automatically deburr drilled holes.

Q. How do you traverse readings with a pitot tube for air velocity and airflow readings?
A.
- Make a 0.35-inch aperture in the duct to use a pitot tube to monitor air velocity.
- Connect the tubing to the manometer's high-pressure side at the total pressure port or port facing the flow and the low-pressure side at the static pressure port or port facing perpendicular to the flow.
- Reverse connections if the reading is negative.
- Take a series of readings while moving horizontally and vertically through the duct.
- Calculate velocities and average them to get the final velocity value using the velocity pressures that were measured at each place.
Q. What happens if the pitot tube is blocked?
A. The pitot tube will stop receiving ram pressure if it gets blocked. You will be comparing the pressure in the drain hole to the static pressure since any extra pressure escapes out via the drain hole. Your airspeed indicator will be at zero as a result.
Q. What are the important points to consider while using pitot tubes?
A.
- Duct diameter needs to be 4 inches or greater.
- Direct the static pressure opening downstream to face the flow and the total pressure opening upstream to face the flow.
- Both holes' faces must be parallel to the airflow.
- Create a precise traverse in accordance with the designs, compute the velocities at each location and then average them.
- Measurements should be made in a piece of a smooth, straight duct that is at least 5 diameters downstream and 10 - 15 duct diameters upstream of the pitot tube.
- For optimal performance, place an egg-crate-style straightener upstream from the pitot tube.
