Working Mechanism
- These ED Series moulded case circuit breakers incorporate both fixed thermal and magnetic trips.
Fixed Thermal Trips
- Fixed thermal trips are based on the heat produced by the circuit's current flow.
- The trip unit contains a bimetallic strip sensitive to temperature changes.
- The bimetallic strip heats up and bends as the current rises, tripping the breaker.
Fixed Magnetic Trips
- Fixed magnetic trips use magnetic field strength created by the current passing through the circuit.
- The trip unit contains an electromagnet sensitive to changes in magnetic field strength.
- When the magnetic field intensity reaches a certain threshold, it causes the breaker to trip as the current increases.
Standards and Approvals
- UL
- HACR
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an MCCB and a miniature circuit breaker (MCB)?
MCCBs are designed for higher current ratings and are used in larger electrical systems, while MCBs are designed for lower current ratings and are used in smaller electrical systems.
What is the proper maintenance procedure for an MCCB?
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the contacts and testing the trip unit for proper functioning.
How to troubleshoot an MCCB that keeps tripping?
Check for loose connections, overloads or short circuits in the electrical system.
How can I prevent unwanted tripping in an MCCB?
Unnecessary trips can be prevented by properly sizing the MCCB for the load and maintaining the electrical system to prevent overloads or short circuits.
