How to measure a taper pin?
- Identify whether the pin requirements are imperial or metric.
- For standard internal & external thread metric taper pins, measure the pin's small end for the diameter. Pin length is calculated by measuring the pin end to end.
- To measure standard and internally threaded taper pins, their diameters are measured from the pin's large end, and their effective lengths are measured from end to end.
- Diameters of externally threaded taper pins are measured at the widest point just before the taper transitions to the threaded tang. The length of these pins is also measured from this point to the pin's small end, thus eliminating the threaded portion of the pin from the effective length.
