Rotary Gear Pump Head
Dayton rotary gear pumps heads are used for pumping non-abrasive & -flammable viscous liquids in the food processing, chemical and paper industries. These light-, intermittent- & heavy-duty pump heads provide a continuous & near pulseless flow and can efficiently handle liquids with viscosities of 100 and 550 SSU. Dayton rotary pump heads are high-temperature pump heads made using 316 stainless steel, bronze and cast iron and are resistant to corrosive chemicals & solvents. Available in suction lifts up to 19.6 ft and temperature between -20 & 375 degrees F, these pump heads are offered in close-coupled, pedestal & carbonator mount configurations. The close-coupled models are directly mounted to NEMA framed ODP single-phase motors and can provide flows of 2.1 / 4.3 gpm at 20 psi pressure.

Rotary Gear Pump Heads
Dayton rotary gear pump heads are designed for continuously pumping non-abrasive or non-particulate viscous liquids in marine, agricultural, chemical and food processing applications. These pump heads have self-priming and positive displacement properties for handling high viscous fluids. Some models feature ball bearings and keyed shafts to ensure no pulling apart of components. They are available in light, intermediate & heavy duty variants on Raptor Supplies.
Working Mechanism
- Rotary gear pump heads contain two interlocking gears (a driving gear and a driven gear).
- As the driving gear rotates, it turns the driven gear.
- The gears mesh together closely, with very little clearance between them.
- As the gears rotate, fluid is drawn into the pump through the inlet port.
- The fluid is trapped between the teeth of gears & the pump casing and is carried around the outside of the gears.
- As the gears continue to rotate, the fluid is forced out of the outlet port of the pump.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I select the right rotary gear pump head for my application?
Consider factors like the type & viscosity of the fluid being pumped, the flow rate & pressure required and the operating conditions (temperature & pressure).
How do I install a rotary gear pump head?
Installation involves mounting the pump head onto a base or frame, connecting the inlet & outlet ports to the piping system and ensuring that the pump is properly aligned & supported.
How can I avoid my rotary gear pump head from leaking?
To prevent leakage from a rotary gear pump head, ensure that the mechanical seals, gaskets or other sealing mechanisms are properly installed and maintained. It is important to select the appropriate clearance between the gears and the pump casing to prevent fluid from bypassing the gears.
