Why do we have to elevate pipes with pipe saddles?

• Less Metal-to-Metal Wear: When pipes are left unprotected on beams or other metallic surfaces, they can be subjected to metal-to-metal wear. Because when pipes shift or vibrate, the pipe's surface digs into the supporting structure.
