Q. What is the purpose of a float?

A. When water enters the air valve, the float rises because of buoyancy and seals the valve. As air accumulates in the valve body, the float drops and opens the valve's orifice to vent accumulated air or gas from the system.

A. Almost all types of liquids tend to carry deposits and suspended particles. To avoid possible functional disturbances and clogging caused by dirt, the valve has to be checked periodically and serviced (if needed).
