Product Details:

TB Wood's BK90 FHPQT bushed V-belt sheave is used with 4L belts for efficient power transmission, ensuring smooth and precise belt operation in automotive manufacturing and industrial machinery.

Features:

  • This TB Woods V-belt sheave is made of cast iron material for high strength and resisting wear & tear.
  • It features a single-groove design for a secure and precise grip on the belt, minimising slippage and ensuring efficient power transfer.
  • This BK90 sheave comes with a QT bushing which is a quick disconnect bushing, allowing for easy installation and removal of the sheave.
  • It is designed to operate at a maximum speed of 2860 RPM, ensuring smooth and reliable power transmission even in applications with high rotational speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How to install this TB Woods BK90 FHPQT bushed V-belt sheave?

A.

  • Inspect the tapered bore of the sheave and the tapered surface of the bushing. Remove any paint, dirt, oil or grease present on them.
  • Select the type of mounting that suits your application.
  • Install the shaft key. If the key is provided with the bushing, use that specific key.
  • Place the bushing on the clean shaft, with the flange end going in first. If the bushing doesn't slide freely on the shaft, insert a screwdriver or similar object into the flange saw cut to act as a wedge and open the bushing's bore. Be careful not to wedge excessively, as it may split the bushing.
  • If using the setscrew, tighten it just enough to prevent the bushing from sliding on the shaft. Avoid over-tightening the set screw.
  • Slide the sheave into position on the bushing, aligning the drilled holes in the sheave with the tapped holes in the bushing flange.
  • Loosely thread the capscrews with lock washers into the assembly.
  • With the larger end of the taper facing outwards, slide the sheave onto the shaft as far as possible.
  • Install the shaft key and then install the bushing onto the shaft in a way that the tapered end will mate with the sheave.
  • If using the setscrew, tighten it enough to prevent the bushing from sliding on the shaft.
  • Pull the sheave up on the bushing, aligning the drilled holes in the bushing flange with the tapped holes in the sheave.
  • Loosely thread the capscrews with lock washers into the assembly.
  • Using a torque wrench, evenly and progressively tighten all capscrews in rotation to the specified torque value found in the table. Ensure that there is a gap between the bushing flange and sheave hub when the installation is complete.

Q. How to properly align this bushed V-belt sheave?

A.

  • Drive shafts should be parallel to each other to maintain proper alignment.
  • Non-parallel shafts and improperly located sheaves are common causes of misalignment.
  • Misalignment leads to uneven load distribution, causing faster wear on certain belts and reducing overall belt lifespan.
  • Misalignment in sheaves results in belts entering and leaving grooves at an angle, leading to excessive wear on both belts and sheaves.
  • Shaft alignment can be checked by measuring distances between shafts at multiple locations. Equal distances indicate parallel alignment.
  • Sheave location can be checked using a straightedge or string. Proper alignment is indicated when the string touches the sheaves at specified points.
  • Rotating each sheave a half revolution helps identify if the sheave is wobbly or if the drive shaft is bent.
  • Correct any misalignment by adjusting the position of the sheaves.
  • Once sheaves are aligned, tighten the cap screws evenly and progressively to ensure a secure and stable connection.

Q. How to tension V-belt drives?

A.

  • Reduce the centre distance to allow the belts to be placed over sheaves and in grooves without forcing them over the sides.
  • Arrange the belts so that both the top and bottom spans have similar sag.
  • Increase the centre distance gradually until the belts are snug.
  • Operate the drive for a few minutes to seat the belts in sheave grooves.
  • Observe the drive under its highest load condition, looking for a slight bowing of the slack side of the drive, indicating proper tension.
  • If the slack side remains taut or there is excessive bowing or slippage, adjust the tension accordingly.
  • If the belts squeal during motor startup or under peak load, they are not tight enough and should be tightened.
  • Check the tension frequently during the first day of operation by observing the slack side span.
  • After a few days of operation, the belts will seat themselves in the sheave grooves and readjustment may be necessary to maintain a slight bow in the slack side of the drive.
