Palmetto Packing axial shaft seals are the sealing component that seals a centrifugal pump's rotating shaft when it travels through the pump's non-rotating casing, preventing fluid loss into the atmosphere.

- Palmetto Packing self-adjusting, shaft-mounted axial lip seals are engineered to deflect mud, dust, dirt and water away from shafts and stop lubricant loss.
- They have a flexible, hinged lip that can be easily and precisely machined to match the shaft.
- The shaft seals automatically release extra grease during regreasing.
- These axial shaft seals has Resilient nitrile rubber (NBR) construction that stretches over shaft obstructions for comfortable installation.

Most seal failures are probably caused by improper installation. Users should use the correct tools to avoid damaging seals and preventing installation in the wrong direction.
When can axial shaft seals leak?
When the seal goes dry, there are no liquids available to lubricate it, which increases friction and heat. Due to the pressure, the seal will burn or melt, causing damage that will result in fluid leakage. Dry running for even a little period can result in heat cracks or blisters which eventually leads to a leaking pump shaft seal.
What is the lifespan of a mechanical seal?
3.5 to 5 years. Although three to five years is an acceptable industry estimate, the normal life expectancy for a mechanical seal of this type balances several elements, including the operating circumstances and environment.
