Eaton definite-purpose contactors are designed to switch high-current loads in motors, heating and cooling systems, lighting and other electrical equipment. They feature an open enclosure to surround and protect the internal components without a cover or lid.

Working Mechanism
- The double-pole definite-purpose contactor uses an electromagnet to control the flow of current.
- When a current is applied to the electromagnet, it creates a magnetic field that attracts an armature.
- This forces the armature to close the electrical contacts, allowing the current to flow to the load and turning it on.
- When the coil is de-energised, the magnetic field collapses, causing the armature to return to its original position, thereby opening the contacts and turning off the load.
