PROTO J4053 Pulley Puller

Proto J4053 pulley puller (also known as jaw puller) is used for removing 1 and 2-groove pulleys from power steering pumps and alternators.

Q. What should be the size of the jaw puller?

A. The centre bolt diameter should be at least half the shaft diameter from which the object is removed.

Q. How should the jaws of a puller be aligned?

A.

• Make sure that the gear puller is aligned with the shaft and fits securely around the part to be removed.
• The jaws must be parallel with the screw for a straight pull.
• Be careful while removing a stubborn bearing or gear.

Q. How to remove a power steering pump pulley?

A.

• Take the threaded bolt and connect it with the small lug below it. Take the two halves of the threaded nut and the ring.
• With the nut attached to the bolt, thread it into the pulley such that the two halves of the ring can grip both the pulley & the nut. This will connect the two and allow you to take the pulley off.
• Slide the ring cover over the top for keeping everything in place.
• Take a 13/16 inch wrench and use it for holding the nut & preventing it from spinning.
• The back of the bolt has been shaped to accommodate a socket. A manual socket / electric power wrench can be used for unscrewing the pulley by pulling it off the power steering pump.
