Oetiker screw clampsare ideal for mounting, clamping, strapping and positioning a wire or hose. These screw clamps attach hoses and tubing to fittings to prevent leakage of liquids, air or gases in applications like commercial fishing and food processing, which involve exposure to salt water. Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps are made of stainless steel for resisting corrosion on exposed surfaces and feature a screw type tightening mechanism that enables them to fit into a wider range of hose diameters, in comparison with similarly sized ear clamps. The tightening mechanism is self tensioning to accommodate variations in diameter due to thermal cycles.
As their name suggests, these clamps feature a StepLess design to eliminate steps and overlaps on the clamp's inner circumference to provide a leak free seal and consistent 360 degree pressure. They have burr free strip edges which provide complete protection of clamped parts from scarring or mechanical damages. Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps are made from strip material having 9 mm width and 0.6 mm thickness. The dimensions of these strips provide optimum sealing with silicone hoses & EPDM rubber, while taking into account the compressibility of the hose, sealing or retaining properties, necessary radial force and environmental conditions. Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps feature a tongue-in-groove design with a narrow band that concentrates clamping force transmission and a housing screw that facilitates smooth tightening & loosening for increasing & decreasing the band size. The band of these clamps has D-nuts and an interlock that engages & keeps the clamp locking mechanism in position once fastened. Once installed, the locking mechanism keeps the clamp locked for long durations, even in adverse conditions & environments.

Installation
- Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps include D-nuts, a housing screw and an interlock for quick and secure installation.
- Turn the screw counter clockwise until it stops at the D-nut.
- For change of diameter or radial assembly, simply unlatch the interlock.
- Place the open clamp around the hose and locate the tongue in the groove while positioning the apertures of the mechanical interlock over the mating features.
- Now hold the interlock at the smallest possible diameter.
- Tighten the screw up to the required torque (do not exceed the maximum permissible tightening torque).
- A gap of more than 3 mm should exist between the D-nuts to ensure sufficient clamp movement for reduction in diameter when the attached spring of the self tensioning clamp expands with contraction of the hose.
- Turn the screw anti clockwise for loosening the self tensioning screw clamp.
- Shift the interlock in the next smaller diameter position and tighten the screw to the required torque.
