EATON CL Type Thermal Magnetic Circuit Breakers

Eaton CL Series thermal magnetic circuit breakers prevent overcurrents, short circuits and ground faults. They are typically used in commercial and industrial applications like electrical panels, loadcentres and switchboards. They have a compact design for easy installation / maintenance and ut...ilise a combination of thermal and magnetic elements to trip the breaker. They are available in single / double pole configurations to meet the needs of various applications.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • The circuit breaker has a bimetal strip and an electromagnet to help with tripping conditions and protect against fire hazards.
  • The bimetallic strip gets heated and bends when a constant overcurrent passes through the device.
  • In such conditions, the mechanical latch (in the circuit breaker) opens the contacts, interrupting the current flow in the circuit.
  • During short circuits, the current rises abruptly, causing the electromagnetic displacement of the plunger in the tripping coil or solenoid.
  • The plunger strikes the trip lever, releasing the latch mechanism and opening the contacts again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset my circuit breaker after it trips?

Turn the handle to the 'ON' position to retract the current flow in the circuit, thereby resetting the breaker.

What is the difference between non-interchangeable and interchangeable circuit breakers?

  • The entire breaker must be changed when the trip unit in non-interchangeable or fixed breakers needs to be replaced.
  • In interchangeable breakers, only the trip unit needs to be replaced without dismantling the device.

What is the purpose of a toggle handle?

When there is a surge of overcurrent, short circuit or under voltage release, the toggle handle snaps into the TRIPPED position to indicate that the breaker has tripped. The toggle handle can be brought back to the OFF position (RESET) to restore the current.
