Frequently Asked Questions
How to install helical inserts?
- Drill a hole using the suggested drill bit size.
- Tap the hole, then screw the insert into the installation tool. The prong must be properly engaged in the driving contour of the tool.
- Using the installation tool, thread the insert into the hole. Install the insert a quarter to half turn below the hole's surface.
- If your insert has a prong, remove it with a punch or break-off tool. Remove the prong to allow your screw to fully enter the insert.
Why break the tang on a Helicoil?
If the tang is not properly removed, the hole might get compromised and the male fastener will not be able to pass through. Browse through our catalogue to find the right tang break-off tool for your needs.
What is the use of a mandrel?
A mandrel is a piece of metal that is used to support a partially machined workpiece while it is being finished, or as a core around which parts can be bent / forged / moulded.
