Features
- Tempco thermocouple wires are designed to work accurately over a specified insulation temperature range up to 221 degrees Fahrenheit, but the fibreglass / glass filled nylon constructed wires can go up to 900 degrees F in selected models.
- They feature PVC, fibreglass or BX armour over glass-filled nylon constructed insulation to withstand harsh environments and high temperatures.
- These units are available in stranded and solid wire types for secured electrical connections.
- They allow spade lugs with BX connection and / or standard jack & standard plug termination techniques.
- The MTA0156 model features magnesium oxide insulation for high thermal conductivity.
- All these models are available in K, KX, JX and J conductor types, as specified by ANSI.
Working Mechanism
- Two wires of different metals are soldered into a junction to form a thermocouple.
- Another junction, known as the reference junction, is located at the other end of the signal wires, often as a component of the input instrument.
- A thermoelectric potential (emf) proportionate to the temperature differential between the two junctions is produced while heating the sensor junction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the colour coding system in Tempco thermocouple wires?
- The ANSI Type J single conductor construction thermocouple wires are available in two colours - the negative JN wires in red and the positive JP wires in white.
- The ANSI Type K Duplex insulated thermocouple wires feature an overall brown-coloured body with the inner colours yellow and red for positive and negative configurations, respectively.
- The ANSI Type JX thermocouple extension wires feature an overall black-coloured body with the inner colours white and red for positive and negative configurations, respectively.
- The ANSI Type KX Duplex construction insulated thermocouple extension wires have an overall yellow-coloured body with the inner colours yellow and red for positive and negative configurations, respectively.
What is the difference between stranded and solid wire types?
Stranded wires are thin, bundled wires that are insulated and compressed with non-conductive materials, allowing them to easily fit (by bending or twisting) in cramped spaces or intricate geometries. Solid wires are heavier & thicker than stranded ones and are used where high currents are required. These units are resistant to extreme environmental conditions, frequent movement and weather.
What is the wire size of these thermocouple wires?
They have wire sizes ranging up to 24 AWG.
